Minn Kota Talon Anchor Light

If you run a Minn Kota Talon shallow water anchor, the Talon work light on the cap is not a USCG anchor light. It is a work light. For legal night anchoring, you need a dedicated, all-around white anchor light visible at the required range. That is what this product is.
The Mealey Marine anchor light is engineered to mount cleanly to the Minn Kota Talon, Talon BT, and the older non-work-light Talon caps. It is the same light that fits Power Pole and Minn Kota Raptor. One light, three brands, one universal mount. We built it that way on purpose.

Why a Talon owner needs a real anchor light

A Talon parked in the mud after dark is doing exactly what it was built to do. The problem is what other boats see, or do not see, while you are sitting there.
The integrated Talon work light is bright, but it is aimed down and forward. It is a deck light. It does not project all around white at the height and visibility required for an anchored vessel under USCG navigation rules. If you get checked at night and your only white light is the work light on your shallow water anchor, you are not compliant.
On a Talon 12 or Talon 15 BT, the problem gets worse. The longer the shaft, the more the anchor body itself blocks any low mounted transom light you may already have. A taller, dedicated anchor light mounted to the top cap of the Talon clears that obstruction and puts the light where other boats can actually see it.
What you are buying
This is the Mealey Marine anchor light, built for the Minn Kota Talon variant. The housing, hardware, wire, and connector are the same proven build used across all three brand variants. The mount is designed to land cleanly on the Talon top cap.
Marine grade 5052 aluminum body
The pole and base are machined from 5052 marine grade aluminum. 5052 is the alloy that holds up in saltwater because it does not corrode the way cheaper aluminum or plated steel does. It will not pit out, flake, or leave rust streaks down a freshly waxed gel coat.
Textured black powder coat
The finish is a textured black powder coat applied over prepped aluminum. It hides scuffs, it matches the look of the Talon, and it does not turn chalky after a season in the sun the way painted lights do.
USCG 2 nautical mile compliant
The LED is rated for 2 nautical mile visibility, which is the USCG requirement for vessels under 20 meters anchored at night. This is the spec your boat actually needs to be legal at anchor in the dark.
ABYC A-16 certified
The light is built to ABYC A-16, which is the marine electrical standard for navigation light construction, sealing, and electrical performance. That is not a sticker. It is what separates a real navigation light from a generic LED on a stick.
IP rated sealed head
The light head is IP rated and fully sealed. Spray, rain, and wash downs do not get inside. We have customers running these in the salt for years.
12 feet of marine grade wire
The light ships with 12 feet of marine grade tinned copper wire. That is enough length to route from a Talon top cap down through the rigging to a switch or fuse panel on most boats without splicing.
Waterproof heat shrink step down butt connector
Inside the box is a waterproof, adhesive lined, heat shrink, step down butt connector. It steps the larger boat side wire down to the light side wire and seals the joint. Most lights ship with a generic crimp. Ours does not.
Black oxide stainless mounting hardware
The mounting hardware is black oxide coated stainless steel. It will not rust, and it does not stand out against the black powder coat of the light or the black cap of the Talon.

Talon compatibility
This light is built to fit every current and recent Minn Kota Talon shallow water anchor:
- Talon 8
- Talon 10
- Talon 12
- Talon 15 BT
- Talon BT models with the integrated work light cap
- Older Talon models without the work light cap
The mount is the same across the lineup. Whether your Talon has the work light cap or the plain cap, the base lands on the existing top hardware pattern. Power and ground run down alongside the Talon harness.
If you are running a Power Pole or a Minn Kota Raptor on the other side of the transom, this is the same light. Order matching units, get matching hardware, get a clean transom. That is part of why we built it as one universal product.
Why the work light is not enough
This is the most common question we get from Talon owners. Why do I need a separate anchor light when my Talon already has a light?
The work light on a Talon is a flood, not an all around white. USCG navigation rules require a 360 degree, unobstructed, white light visible at the required range. A flood aimed at the deck does not meet that. The work light also shuts off with the Talon system, and your anchor light needs to stay on independently of whether the Talon is powered, deployed, retracted, or in a fault state. A dedicated anchor light solves both problems with one part.
Install on a Talon
Most Talon owners install this light in under an hour with basic hand tools. You will need a small wrench or socket for the cap hardware, a wire stripper, and a heat source for the included heat shrink connector.
The general process:
- Power down the Talon at the battery switch.
- Remove the top cap hardware on the Talon shaft.
- Drop the anchor light base onto the existing hardware pattern. Reuse or replace with the included black oxide stainless hardware.
- Route the 12 feet of marine wire down alongside the Talon harness, through the rigging tube, and to your switch or fuse panel.
- Tie into a switched 12V circuit through a fuse. We recommend a dedicated anchor light switch so it stays on when everything else is off.
- Use the included waterproof heat shrink butt connector at the wire join. Crimp, then heat to seal.
- Test before you button up.
If your Talon has the integrated work light cap, the wiring for the work light stays as is. The anchor light is a separate circuit and does not interrupt the work light at all. They run independently.
How this fits with Power Pole and Raptor
We build one anchor light. The mount is universal. The same product fits Power Pole, Minn Kota Raptor, and Minn Kota Talon. If you have one brand on each side of the transom, you are not stuck running mismatched lights or drilling a custom bracket.
If you only run a Talon, the Talon variant is what you want. If you run a Talon and a Power Pole, see the Power Pole anchor light page at /pages/power-pole-anchor-light. If you run a Talon and a Raptor, see the Raptor anchor light page at /pages/minn-kota-raptor-anchor-light. For the full anchor light lineup, visit /collections/anchor-light.

What customers say
The Talon variant carries a 4.7 out of 5 average across 13 verified reviews. The common themes from buyers: clean fit on the Talon cap, real brightness at distance, and no corrosion after a full season in the salt.

FAQ
Does this anchor light fit the Minn Kota Talon 8, 10, 12, and 15 BT?
Yes. The Talon variant of this light fits Talon 8, Talon 10, Talon 12, and Talon 15 BT, including BT models with the integrated work light cap and older Talon models without the work light cap.
I already have the Talon work light. Do I still need this?
Yes. The Talon work light is a deck flood. It is not a USCG compliant all around white anchor light. For legal night anchoring you are required to display a 360 degree white light visible at 2 nautical miles. That is what this product provides. The two lights are on separate circuits and do not interfere with each other.
Is this anchor light USCG compliant?
Yes. The LED is rated for 2 nautical mile visibility, which meets the USCG requirement for vessels under 20 meters anchored at night. The light is also built to ABYC A-16, the marine standard for navigation light construction.
Is install hard?
No. Most Talon owners install it in under an hour with basic hand tools. The base lands on the existing top cap hardware pattern. You route 12 feet of pre attached marine wire down through the Talon rigging to a switched 12V circuit. The included heat shrink connector seals the wire joint.
Is it bright enough on a Talon 12 or Talon 15?
Yes. The light is engineered for 2 nautical mile visibility and is mounted to the top of the Talon, which puts it above most transom obstructions when the anchor is deployed. On longer shaft Talons that is exactly where you want it.
Will it hold up in saltwater?
Yes. The body is 5052 marine grade aluminum with textured black powder coat. Hardware is black oxide stainless. The head is IP rated and sealed. The wire is marine grade tinned copper. It is built for the salt.
