Minn Kota Raptor Anchor Light
Minn Kota Raptor Anchor Light
If you run a Minn Kota Raptor and you anchor up at night, you need a dedicated USCG compliant anchor light. The Raptor holds the boat in place. It does not make the boat legal to sit at anchor in the dark.
The Mealey Marine Raptor Anchor Light is built for that job. It mounts on top of the Raptor and gives you a proper 360 degree white light that meets the federal requirement for boats at anchor. Same light, same hardware, same finish we run on our own boats.
It also fits the Power Pole and the Minn Kota Talon. One anchor light, every shallow water anchor brand.

What this is
This is a purpose built anchor light for shallow water anchors. The body is 5052 marine grade aluminum with a textured black powder coat. The lens is sealed and IP rated. The lamp is USCG approved for 2 nautical miles of visibility, which is the federal standard for boats under 20 meters at anchor. It is ABYC A-16 certified for marine electrical work.
It ships with 12 feet of marine grade wire and a waterproof heat shrink step down butt connector so you can splice into the Raptor harness without exposing copper to salt or spray. Mounting hardware is black oxide stainless. Nothing on this light is going to corrode out on you in the first season.
The mount is designed around the Raptor cap. It also fits the Power Pole and the Talon. If you have one of each on the dock, the same light works on every boat.

Why a Raptor owner needs a real anchor light
The Raptor is built to hold the boat. It is not built to make the boat legal in the dark.
A few things people miss:
The integrated work light option on the Raptor is a work light. It is not a USCG compliant 360 degree white anchor light. Running it does not satisfy the rule for a vessel at anchor.
When the Raptor is deployed, the boat sits low and the deck lights are below the gunnel of anything else on the water. A proper masthead style anchor light up on the Raptor cap is the only way to be seen from every direction.
Federal Navigation Rule 30 requires a 360 degree white light, visible for 2 nautical miles, on any vessel under 20 meters anchored outside a designated anchorage. Getting hit at night because another boater could not see you is not a story you want to be part of. Getting boarded by the Coast Guard without a compliant light is not one either.
This light solves both. It is purpose built, federally compliant, and it mounts where it needs to be.
Fits Raptor 8 and Raptor 10
The mount is designed to fit the cap on both Raptor 8 and Raptor 10. Same hardware, same wire, same installation. If you upgrade from a Raptor 8 to a Raptor 10 down the road, the light moves with you.
It also fits Power Pole and Minn Kota Talon, so if you sell the boat or move to a different anchor brand, the light still works.

Installation on a Raptor
Installation is straightforward for anyone comfortable running wire on a boat. The mount lines up with the Raptor cap. You run the supplied 12 feet of wire down the Raptor housing, splice into a switched accessory circuit with the supplied heat shrink butt connector, and seal it.
A few notes from the shop:
Run the wire on the inside of the Raptor housing, not the outside. The Raptor strokes through its full travel under load. Wire on the outside gets pinched or torn.
Splice into a switched accessory circuit, not the Raptor power feed. You want the light controlled independently so you can turn it on at anchor without cycling the Raptor.
Use the supplied heat shrink butt connector. The step down design handles the wire gauge difference and the heat shrink with adhesive lining keeps salt and moisture out of the splice. Crimped and taped splices fail. We see it every season.
Torque the stainless hardware snug, not gorilla tight. You are clamping into aluminum.
Most installs take under an hour. If you are not comfortable doing it yourself, any marine shop can install it.

Why we built this
We build the parts we wished existed when we were rigging boats in the shop. Off the shelf anchor lights for shallow water anchors are usually one of two things. Either they are cheap plastic units that fail in a season, or they are brand specific and you have to buy a different light for every anchor on the dock.
The Mealey Marine Raptor Anchor Light is the answer to both. Aluminum body, real marine wire, real waterproof splice, real USCG compliance. One mount, every brand.
That is the only way we know how to build parts.
The Ultimate Anchor Light upgrade
If you want a brighter light with a wider visible range, look at the Ultimate Anchor Light. Same mount, same fit, brighter output. A lot of tournament anglers go straight to the Ultimate.
The standard light meets the federal requirement. The Ultimate exceeds it. Both fit the Raptor.

FAQ
Does this anchor light fit Raptor 8 and Raptor 10?
Yes. The mount is designed to fit the cap on both Raptor 8 and Raptor 10. It also fits the Minn Kota Talon and the Power Pole.
Is it USCG compliant?
Yes. The light is USCG approved for 2 nautical miles of visibility, which is the federal standard for vessels under 20 meters at anchor. It is also ABYC A-16 certified.
I have the Raptor with the integrated work light option. Do I still need a separate anchor light?
Yes. The integrated work light on the Raptor is a work light, not a USCG compliant 360 degree white anchor light. It does not satisfy federal navigation rules for a vessel at anchor. A dedicated anchor light is required for legal night anchoring.
Is installation hard?
No. Most installs take under an hour for anyone comfortable running wire on a boat. The light comes with 12 feet of marine grade wire and a waterproof heat shrink step down butt connector. You run the wire down the Raptor housing, splice into a switched accessory circuit, and seal it.
Is it bright enough?
Yes. The standard light meets the USCG 2 nautical mile requirement. If you want a brighter light with more visible range, look at the Ultimate Anchor Light, which uses the same mount but a brighter lamp.
Will it hold up to saltwater?
Yes. The body is 5052 marine grade aluminum with textured black powder coat. The lens is sealed and IP rated. The mounting hardware is black oxide stainless. The wire splice uses a waterproof heat shrink butt connector with adhesive lining. Built for salt.
