Dexter ships its Vault service kit with a plastic pipe section and calls it a tool. Anybody who has used one knows what happens next. The cap starts crooked, will not straighten out, and you end up chasing it around the hub with a block of wood. Sometimes the PVC splits. Sometimes a $40 cap gets ruined.
We got tired of it and machined our own.
The Mealey Marine Trailer Grease Cap Driver is a solid billet aluminum cup that holds the cap square to the hub before you ever swing a hammer. The cap physically cannot cock because the tool will not let it. A recessed pocket gives the pressurized diaphragm room to bulge so nothing touches it, and the aluminum is softer than the stainless cap. It drives clean without marring the flange.

Fits Dexter/UFP Vault caps on 2.5K, 3.2K, 3.5K, and 3.7K hubs. It is the billet aluminum alternative for the Dexter/UFP 071-788-00 Vault installation tool included with the K71-030-00 service kit. It also drives Dexter E-Z Lube 1.99, Bearing Buddy, Posi-Lube, Karavan, Knott, and most 1.98 to 1.99 caps. This is the size most bass boat, bay boat, and single-axle trailers need.

Fits Dexter/UFP Vault caps on 4.2K and 5.2K hubs. For the 2.328 cap application, it is the billet aluminum alternative to the Dexter/UFP 071-787-00 Vault installation tool included with the K71-029-00 service kit. This is the size for heavier tandem rigs and bigger offshore trailers.

Match the driver to the cap outside diameter. Use the 1.980 driver for 1.98 to 1.99 caps and the 2.328 driver for 2.328 Vault caps. If you service mixed boat trailers, choose Both.

Will the driver touch the pressurized Vault diaphragm?
No. The recessed pocket clears the pressurized center so the driver contacts only the cap flange.
