What an Anchor Light Actually Does on a Bass Boat
A general boat anchor light marks your anchored position. 360 degrees, white, visible from 2 miles out per USCG rules. You turn it on, other boats know you are sitting still.
A bass boat anchor light does more. You are running a shallow water anchor, usually a Power Pole, Raptor, or Talon. The light mounts on the anchor arm itself, so it rises with the arm and drops out of the way when you pull up. At tournaments, it marks your position in the dark so you do not get run over in a crowded cove. At night, it lights your casting deck so you can actually see what you are doing.
That second function (deck illumination) is what separates a bass boat anchor light from every other marine light. If it only marks your position, you are leaving half the product unused.

Why Most Lights Fail at One or Both Jobs
The market has two failure modes we see regularly.
Failure Mode 1: Great navigation light, useless work light. Some anchor lights are basically a white LED globe. Visible from a distance. Does nothing for your deck because the light scatters upward, not down. You are fishing in the dark while technically being compliant.
Failure Mode 2: Great work light, terrible anchor light. Bright downward-facing flood lights that make your deck look like a parking lot. The beam hits the water in front of your boat, spooks fish, and does not meet USCG visibility requirements for an anchored vessel at night.
A well-designed bass boat anchor light solves both in the same housing. The anchor light component handles visibility. The work light component handles the deck. They are separate functions that need separate optics, but they can live together.

What to Check Before You Buy
Compatibility. Does it actually fit your anchor? Power Pole Blade, Pro Series, Micro, Sportsman, and C-Series all have different arm profiles. Raptor and Talon are similar but not identical. Universal-fit designs handle multiple platforms without adapter kits. If a light requires a brand-specific adapter, check whether that adapter is sold separately before you check out.
Waterproofing. IP67 is the baseline for freshwater use. Bass boats running saltwater bays, coastal flats, or heavy rain need IP68 or IP69K. IP69K means the housing can take a high-pressure washdown without failing. If you ever hose down your boat, that is the rating you want.
Build material. Cheap plastic housings crack under UV exposure after one summer. CNC-machined aluminum or injection-molded polycarbonate holds up. Check whether the housing is sealed or just weather-resistant.
Wiring. Does it use the existing anchor wiring harness or require a new run? A clean no-drill installation matters on a finished fiberglass boat. Every new hole is a potential leak if not properly sealed.
Brightness. For the work light function, you want enough output to see knots, gear, and deck clearly. More is not always better. Too bright and you lose night vision and spook fish. Warm or neutral color temperature is easier on your eyes than cool-white LEDs at 11pm on the water.
The Real Cost of Getting It Wrong
A wrong-spec light means drilling new mounting holes in your gelcoat. That is filler, repaint, and a visible repair if you ever sell the boat. It also means buying the right light anyway once you figure out the problem, which means you paid twice.
At tournaments, an anchor light that fails mid-night is a real safety issue. Other boats do not know you are there. We have talked to anglers who have had close calls in coves during early morning launches specifically because their light failed or was not bright enough to be visible in fog.
Buy the right light once. The price difference between the budget option and a properly built unit is small compared to the downside.

Ultimate Light Upgrade Kit — $129.99
Already own a Mealey Marine Anchor Light and want the ULTIMATE's work light capability? This kit adds it without replacing the whole unit.

How to Install
Installation on Power Pole, Raptor, and Talon follows the same general steps. The anchor arm has a mounting point near the top. Clean the surface. Use the supplied bracket. Route wiring through the arm channel or use split loom along the arm to keep it tight. Connect to the anchor's 12V circuit or run a dedicated wire to your fuse block.
The no-drill mount option on compatible arms means no holes in your fiberglass. If your arm requires a through-mount, use marine sealant on every penetration and torque to spec.
If you are not comfortable with a wiring run, any shop can do this install in under an hour.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need an anchor light if I have a shallow water anchor?
If you anchor at night or in conditions where visibility is reduced, yes. USCG Rule 30 requires an all-around white light visible for 2 miles when anchored. A shallow water anchor light mounted on your Power Pole or Raptor arm handles this.
Will a bass boat anchor light work on any shallow water anchor?
Depends on the light. OEM lights are model-specific. Our lights are designed to fit Power Pole (all models), Minn Kota Raptor, and Talon without separate adapters.
What is the difference between an anchor light and a work light?
An anchor light marks your position for other boaters. A work light illuminates your deck so you can see gear and rigging. The ULTIMATE Anchor Light combines both in one housing. A standalone work light does not satisfy the USCG navigation light requirement.
What IP rating do I need?
IP67 handles rain and normal freshwater splash. IP68 handles submersion. IP69K handles high-pressure washdown. If you ever pressure wash your boat or fish saltwater, get IP69K.
Can I use this light on a saltwater bay boat?
Yes. The IP69K rating on the work light function handles salt spray and washdown. Rinse the housing after saltwater use, same as any marine electronics.
